Serving up potluck – Nirvana style.

by Ash on May 3, 2010

This whole bloggy world entered my life two years ago on a back porch, chatting with my well-meaning friend Julie - fade to black…

“Ash, you should blog about PKU. My friend Holly has one. It’s called June Cleaver Nirvana. She’s hilarious!”

Me – “I don’t know about all that stuff, but I’ll check her out.”

Annnnnnd, scene.

I visited. I fell in love with her hand-sketched beaver tales and delicious random Potluck. I thought, I’ll give this a try. She now juggles three different extremely successful sites (see the B2B and BurbMom button to the right – did I mention Woman’s Day?) And me, well, I soon found out that since PKU only affects about 1/15,000 births and it’s really not all that funny, my selection of topics needed to expand – enter Daniel Craig and family sticker mutilation observations. Then I decided to change my URL.

Holly is way better at this.

So when Shauna threatened to go grassroots in order to move Potluck to meme status, I threw in my two cents – Hell. Yeah. It’s from Holly – how can this go wrong?!

But then I remembered I’d have to actually write my own randomness, not just link to hers, so yeah, get prepared.

Here we go.

What’s on Ash’s kitchen island:

People magazine with Sandra Bullock and her beautiful baby boy on the cover, compliments of thoughtful friend Julie mentioned above, one box of Pixar Cars Band Aids (which reminds me, we didn’t do Youngest’s blood test last night – awesomeness), updated insurance cards (note to Hubs - take it slow today), and four pieces of random plastic storage containers waiting for me to put away because, for some reason, even after three years of living in the same house, beloved Hubs still has no idea which cabinet door hides their respective mates.

Mood outlook for the week:

I’m going with Navy blue. Until BP plugs that pipe, this chica is going to be driven to distraction with all the news coverage.

Random milestone that should be celebrated:

When kids are able to manage that whole nose blowing thing.

Word I will work into a conversation this week:

“Unprecedented”

And there you have it. My first shot at Potluck. I’ll aim higher next Monday.

Now serving more deliciousness:

Great potluck my friend. We should get together over drinks and complain about GLASA.

Your potluck is unprecedented.

I was going to say that your potluck is unprecedented but then someone preceded me and said that. Darn.

But I enjoyed it!

The only potluck I’ve ever been to was at the church and that was pretty tasty too! :)

If you’re waiting for BP to plug that pipe, you probably should be wearing a darker color. Fade to black…

I’m desperately trying to stay positive, but the 24/7 news cycle is killing me. Luckily (unluckily) my parents keep me up beat with the information from Northwest Florida. The locals there will rally, I have faith. Not the time to be a fairweather beach lover. The Gulf Coast will need longterm support no matter what, for sure.

I’m so depressed about this oil mess. It’s horrible on so many levels. I try not to think about it but it’s SO hard, especially living here in LA.

Like your word for the week. :)

AWESOMENESS…and you are WAY sweet. I forgot that I might have a slight responsibility in your blogging for which I am extremely PROUD.

I have that PEOPLE…it isn’t in my fruit bowl and do the kids ever learn how to blow their nose by themselves? Please say yes. Oh, and wipe themselves? Please say yes.

Oh yay, another lover of randomness! There can never be too many of us—one day we WILL take over the world, and that will be unprecedented. ; )

I love your word. I may have to incorporate that idea in my own potluck.

This was fun. I love randomness. And I was going to say our husbands could be related, but I’m pretty sure it’s a man thing.

How fun!
I have to say, I bought that same People magazine because of that gorgeous baby and OMG, while in line, the cashier a lane over says to my cashier (holding & scanning the magazine) ” I would NEVER adopt a baby like THAT.”…totally disgusted.
I couldn’t believe it.
And, I couldn’t say nothing cos, well, I;m me.
So, I said,” I DID adopt a baby like THAT. As a matter of fact, I adopted THREE babies like That.”

Left her with her mouth hanging.

some people!

Ok that was a pretty good potluck. I’m fairly satiated except for dessert. Where’s my pie?

If I ever start blogging regularly again, I will definitely get in on this Potluck action because with you, Shauna and Holly all in the same area, I can at least feel, for a moment, that I am too in your ‘hood. I really do like this little potluck action. But when can we have a REAL one????

And this Blog Hop thing is like a revelation today. And it’s freaking me out. You are so on the cutting edge….

I am loving the potlucks! Awesome randomness.
I may have to steal the word segment. How did you decide on unprecedented?
(Oops – I just typed unpresidented. And I normally try to steer clear of politics…)
